Swindon Town made it two wins in a week as they cruised to a 4-0 win on the road against Fleetwood Town.
Kabongo Tshimanga scored from the penalty spot for the sixth time this season to give Swindon the lead at the break.
Miguel Freckleton turned home his first-ever EFL goal, then Rhys Bennett scored an own goal, and Nnamdi Ofoborh struck for a fine away outing.
Only once in their history have Swindon won an away league match by more than four goals.
The victory brought Swindon onto the same number of points they won last season from five fewer matches, and a defeat for Morecambe saw Town mathematically safe for another season.
Ian Holloway was forced into making six changes to the side which defeated AFC Wimbledon in midweek due to the injuries ravishing his squad. The substitutes bench was also populated by four academy players as Botan Ameen was joined by the recalled pair of Sonny Hart and Redman Evans, along with first-year scholar Owen Foye.
As Swindon looked to return to the kind of football that had fuelled their upturn in form, they caused some early trouble from set-piece situations. One long throw from Will Wright was flicked on by Freckleton, only for Jay Lynch to get out quickly.
Then, a pair of long throws were hastily scrapped away, presenting Town with a corner. Billy Kirkman looped one into the far post, where Harry Smith headed just wide of the target.
Fleetwood had more to be concerned about with their league position, but their free-scoring ways of the last week were taking a while to warm up. Their only sight of goal early on came as they switched a throw-in out to Phoenix Patterson. He did a quick stepover to find room and drill a cross into the near post, but Wright hooked it away.
A long ball was then played into the path of Owen Devonport midway through the half. As he feigned to shoot, he worked the ball onto his left foot and curled a shot that kissed the top of the crossbar as it went over.
But it was all scraps in the final third. Swindon had taken the majority of the ball, but neither side was playing with a great degree of fluidity to unlock the spaces.
Town had been especially sloppy among their forward players, with simple passes and flick-ons going awry and preventing them from even tapping on the Fleetwood door, let alone trying to bash on it.
The home side finally seemed to be getting on top of things after the half-hour mark and forced Bycroft into a few good stops as Swindon kept ceding possession, especially beating one away with his chest after a stinger from the edge of the area.
But then it finally clicked. The ball was played long into Smith for him to set back for Tshimanga. He then played a pass into the open space for Smith to run onto. He knocked the ball beyond the goalkeeper and was taken down before Paul Glatzel was then brought down for good measure.
For the third time this week, Tshimanga was staring down the whites of a goalkeeper’s eyes, and for the third time this week, he sat him down and rolled the ball into the expectant net to take him to double figures this season.
After a longer half-time than normal due to an injury to the official, Swindon looked to have used their spare time perfectly. Nichols clipped a perfect ball over the top to send Glatzel away down the flank. He took the ball down and drilled it across the face of goal, and Freckleton smashed home from close range.
It could have been three within five minutes of the belated restart when Gavin Kilkenny’s cross was flicked into the path of Kirkman. He steadied himself and swept an effort beyond the far post.
The excitement forced Fleetwood into chasing the game, and they thought they had a route back when a free kick was headed into the net, only to be denied by the assistant referee’s flag.
But Swindon were looking very sharp on the break, with Tom Nichols and Glatzel continuously working the space they were afforded to get into good attacking areas.
The craft of the former German youth international showed itself once again in the 75th minute as he was played the ball by Wright. He turned and sent another ball across goal that Bennett sent into his own net with Smith breathing down his neck.
With time ticking down, Ofoborh came off the bench and made a smart run through the half space. The midfielder smacked a shot into the net with some help from a deflection.
The strong away crowd were treated to a delightful day in the sun. One day to remember in a campaign that will not live long in the memory.
