“I’m so excited to be back competing in Liverpool,” said Jessica. “Some of my best gymnastics memories took place in this arena and it feels really good to be back performing in front of such an amazing crowd once more, and that’s one of the things I’ve missed the most.

“My comeback from injury has been tough and at times really frustrating but I was determined to do everything right, come back slowly and progressively and be ready to hit this Olympic cycle in the best shape possible.”

She added: “I’m still developing routines and working my way back but competing at the British Championships feels like a huge positive step forward.

"Most of all, I’m excited to see everyone, get the buzz of performing and feel part of such a special event back in Liverpool.”

Liverpool has been hosting the British Championships for over a decade, and this year from Thursday 20 till Sunday 23 March there will be competitions for disability, junior, and senior gymnasts across the six men’s and four women’s apparatus.

Ticket sales have hit a record high and over 2,000 local school children will be attending as the city shows its passion for sport.

The men’s senior events, taking place on Saturday and Sunday along with the women’s senior events, will see two Paris medallists in action. Jake Jarman, who took floor bronze for Team GB, and Harry Hepworth who won historic vault bronze will both be competing.

“I can’t wait to be back in Liverpool,” Harry said. “The arena is amazing and there’s always a massive crowd.

“This is my first time competing in a major event since the Olympics so I’m excited to celebrate with everyone, show people what I’m made of, try out some new skills and routines, and enjoy the amazing atmosphere.”
