The all-round attitude of members of Watford Swimming Club delighted their head coach when it hosted its annual east regional qualifier at the weekend.
As the club’s second major meet of the season, the gala attracted swimmers aiming to achieve regional qualification times and it resulted in some outstanding performances.
Watford head coach James Cameron was particularly impressed with the club’s competitors’ attitude towards physical and mental pre-pool preparation.
The host club’s outstanding performances included: Amy Boreham, 1st, Girls 17 & Over 50m Short Course Backstroke, 32.15 secs; Caelia Randall, 2nd, Girls 16 Year Olds 50m SC Backstroke, 34.65 secs; Chun Ho Chan, 1st, Boys 16 Year Olds 50m SC Butterfly, 28.04 secs; Jeffrey Gill, 2nd, Boys 17 & Over 50m SC Butterfly, 28.06 secs; Constantine Calliafas, 1st, Boys 14 Year Olds 50m SC Butterfly, 29.38 secs; Layla Harley, 2nd, Girls 11 Year Olds 50m SC Freestyle, 34.97 secs; Emily Meyler, 2nd, Girls 14Year Olds 100m SC Breaststroke 1min.29.14 secs; Grace Cracknell, 3rd, Girls 15 Year Olds 100m SC Breaststroke, 1min.27.75 secs; Isla Caley, 1st, Girls 13 Year Olds 400m SC Freestyle, 5 mins.10.58 secs; Gabriel Taggart, 1st, Boys 15 Year Olds 200m SC IM, 2mins 33.19 secs; Rachel Ord, 1st, Girls 14 Year Olds 50m SC Butterfly, 32.64 secs.
The Watford club has also extended its “heartfelt gratitude” to Suzy Harper, who promoted the meet, and whose longstanding dedication to this role has been invaluable.
A club spokesperson said: “After years of exceptional service, Suzy is stepping down from her role as meet promoter following this weekend’s event.
“However, her expertise will continue to benefit the club as she mentors new meet promoters in the coming months.
The club’s focus shifts to a triple header weekend, where squads are heading to Winchester, Cardiff and the second round of the ‘Herts Major’ League, where Watford are looking to improve on their second place finish in the opening gala.
Focus then turns to the Swim England East Region Regional Championships, where many of the Watford swimmers who have successfully qualified will compete.
