Division Two

The top two sides in the Watford Sunday League Second Division, Woodside and Hertfordshire Athletic warmed up for next Sunday’s Herts Junior Cup semi-finals with big home wins, as Woodside continue to head the table by six points, although their rivals do have three games in hand.

On a day when only five games were played in the league, Woodside beat mid-table Batchworth 5-1, with all the goals coming in the first half.

Woodside went ahead after just two minutes when Josh Towle was put through on goal from a Tom Garratt header and he went round the keeper and tucked the ball away.

They doubled their lead after 33 minutes as Towle turned provider for Jamie Dunlop to slide in at the back post.

Dunlop then scored the goal of the game just three minutes later with a curling free-kick into the top corner.

Straight from the kick-off, Woodside struck again when Batchworth gave the ball away and Towle took full advantage to net his second.

Matt Hunt then scored direct from a corner in the 41st minute for Batchworth, but Towle completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time when Garratt was again the provider with a header and his teammate finished low into the bottom corner.

Athletic overcame WD Bushey Rangers Reserves 4-0 as both Jack McLaughin and Ed Rogers netted a brace each.

The game between the bottom two sides in the table, Frances George and West Herts, ended in a 1-1 draw, a result which didn’t help either team.

Dexter Franklin-Beck netted for George with Roscoe Tebbs replying for West Herts.

Division Three

Once again, the league’s bottom division proved that it is most competitive as basement side Nascot AFC claimed a third league success of the season with a thumping 4-1 win over second-placed Chorleywood Club AFC.

Reece Cameron netted a double for the victors, supported by goals from Austin Osunsed and Jay Butler.

Steve Quarrington replied for Chorleywood.

Two goals from Peter Rock and one from Tommy Edwards saw AFC Watford beat Everett Rovers Reserves 3-0 to move into third place in the table.

It leaves the table and the division’s nine teams divided by just 15 points, with all the sides having played 14 games, apart from the top two, Bricket Wood Acorns and Chorleywood, who both have three matches in hand on the rest of the division and face each other this Sunday.
