Rasmus Hojlund is a man under-pressure at Manchester United.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United's coaches are losing patience with the striker and it's easy to see why. Hojlund has scored just seven times across all competitions this season, having failed to find the back of the net since December's 2-1 win at Viktoria Plzen.

It's why there are now serious question marks over Hojlund's true potential. The latest Football Observatory figures estimate his value to be between €78million and €98m (around £64m to £81m) which is a laughable figure for a player who is yet to hit 20 goals in a single season for any side.

United secured Hojlund's signature for an initial £64m, potentially rising to £72m, from Atalanta in July 2023, despite their initial stance of not exceeding £60m for the Denmark international. It's already looking like another questionable deal at Old Trafford.

Hojlund's not totally to blame, however. Questions should be asked over why he looked so isolated up front against Everton on Saturday.

Of all the players who have struggled in Amorim's 3-4-3 system so far, it could be argued that the Danish striker has been most affected.

Even Erik ten Hag was able to get a better tune out of Hojlund last season when he became the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six successive games. There is a player there, who, given the right environment, could become a fine striker.

But sympathy will be in short supply when United desperately need a consistent goalscorer. Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have netted just 11 times between them this season, a damning indictment of the Reds' recruitment policy.

Does anyone trust them to get it right in the summer? Perhaps Viktor Gyokeres is the answer, but the noises are not promising over him joining Amorim's team in their current state.

Whatever United do in the summer, it is becoming abundantly clear that Hojlund is not the answer. With all the work Ineos have to do though, he may be given a stay of execution and another season to prove his worth.
