Opta’s League One ‘supercomputer’ is predicting that the play-off race will go right down to the wire.

The table is tight heading into the final weeks of the campaign, with six points separating fifth-place Stockport and eighth-place Reading.

Wanderers are currently a point off the top six but have a game in hand on Charlton and Stockport, who were beaten by Peterborough and Wrexham respectively at the weekend.

The Whites had been on a strong run following the appointment of Steven Schumacher, including victories against Birmingham and Leyton Orient.

However, the recent defeats against Stockport and Bristol Rovers saw Bolton miss the chance to gain some ground on the sides above them.

Wanderers kick off the run-in with derbies on the road against Blackpool and Wigan over the next week.

Schumacher’s side also face Bristol Rovers, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wycombe, Lincoln and Peterborough before wrapping up the regular season with a home game against Stevenage.

The ‘supercomputer’ reckons Wrexham will join Birmingham in the automatic promotion spots, with Wycombe narrowly missing out.

The current leaders are tipped to surpass the 100-point milestone on their way to the title.

Charlton and Stockport are predicted to remain in the top six, with a tight finish projected between Huddersfield, Wanderers and Reading for the remaining spot.

The data claims that Bolton are on course to reach 74 points, which would have just missed out on the top six last term.

At the other end of the table, Burton’s chances of pulling off a great escape under Gary Bowyer are rated around 23 per cent.

The Brewers are currently six points adrift in the relegation zone but have a game in hand on Bristol Rovers. Shrewsbury, Cambridge and Crawley are the other sides in the drop zone at this stage.

Here is how Opta predicts the top 10 will look in League One come the end of the season

  1. Birmingham (104pts)

  2. Wrexham (87pts)

  3. Wycombe (86pts)

  4. Charlton (79pts)

  5. Stockport (78pts)

  6. Huddersfield (75pts)

  7. Wanderers (74pts)

  8. Reading (73pts)

  9. Leyton Orient (70pts)

  10. Blackpool (67pts)
