Reece James and Eberechi Eze scored their first England goals in a comfortable 3-0 win over Latvia at Wembley.
The Three Lions began life under Thomas Tuchel with victory over Albania on Friday night and it was expected to be an even more routine affair here, in the latest qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.
Latvia, though, kept England at bay for 38 minutes, until James stepped up and whipped a sensational free-kick into the top corner.
The lead was doubled midway through the second period, when Declan Rice drilled the ball across the face of goal to leave Harry Kane with a tap-in at the back post, before Eze came off the bench to open his international account with the help of a deflection.
