A Swindon Town star in the making is in the running to be named EFL Apprentice of the Season.
Town Under-18s forward Botan Ameen has been nominated by the club for the 2024/25 EFL Apprentice of the Season award following an impressive debut campaign.
The 17-year-old made his first-team debut for the club against Bristol Rovers in October 2024, marking the occasion with his first professional goal.
Ameen was handed his league debut shortly after when he appeared as a second-half substitute in a 3-2 win over Cheltenham Town.
He has gone on to play for Town five more times this season under Ian Holloway, with highlights including picking up an assist against Doncaster and starting his first game on Saturday against Cheltenham.
Alongside regularly training with the first team and his commitments to the Under-18s, Ameen is also studying an A-Level in History and completed his UEFA C Licence last season.
He has already made his mark on the international stage, representing Iraq at Under-20s level.
Ameen has spoken with fans about his career so far, including how he has handled the challenges of playing during the month of Ramadan.
He said: "It is about having the sufficient preparation in terms of eating the right foods, getting a balanced diet and also staying consistent with my faith.
"All of the players have been very intrigued and that is very helpful as it shows that they want to show a level of understanding and they want to show compassion towards me.
"I appreciate that a lot and the club has also done so much for me to help me get through the month and prepare the right way."
Ameen has also impressed off the pitch, visiting local primary schools to support children with their education and helping to coach Town's junior teams from Under-8 to Under-12s.
Mark Moss, Academy Manager, said: "Botan has consistently demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication, skill and professionalism throughout his apprenticeship.
"What makes Botan stand out is not just his technical ability but also his leadership qualities and willingness to support others.
"Botan's achievements and growth during his apprenticeship are a testament to his hard work, determination and potential.
"He embodies the qualities of an outstanding apprentice, and I have no doubt that he will continue to excel in his career.
"I strongly believe he is a deserving candidate for Apprentice of the Season."
