David de Gea enjoyed a pleasant reunion with his former Manchester United teammate Facundo Pellistri despite his new club Fiorentina losing to the Uruguayan's Panathinaikos in the first leg of their Conference League round of 16 tie.
The Italian side travelled to Greece on Thursday evening after gaining the advantage of being seeded in the competition following a top eight finish in the league phase. However, it was Pellistri's team who would have the upper hand at the end of the night.
Pellistri was not available to feature on the night but was able to watch on as Karol Swiderski, Nemanja Maksimovic and Tete all scored to give the Greek team a 3-2 victory over their Serie A opponents. De Gea had a similar watching brief but his was from the bench as Fiorentina chose to continue their rotation of the Spaniard for the Conference League.

Despite his team being on the losing side of the result, De Gea was more than happy to pose for a selfie with Pellistri at full-time as the duo caught up. Posting the picture to his Instagram story, Pellistri wrote: "What a joy to see you brother."
De Gea did not acknowledge the reunion on his social media, instead deciding to send a message to the Fiorentina fans in Italian which read: "I'll see you all together on Thursday at the stadium." Since moving to Italy in the summer, De Gea has been a regular in Serie A, only to be replaced in the Conference League by Pietro Terracciano.
As for Pellistri, he has been gaining regular football in Greece since his move from United this summer. The winger has registered four goals and four assists in 30 appearances for the club but has not featured since picking up his injury at the beginning of February.
