A “derby” win and a point against the league leaders is a good week in anyone’s book. More importantly it has put our destiny back in our own hands.

Last Thursday night at Holker Street, Matt Dennis’ first goal for the club ensured we kept up our superb record in these fixtures and closed the gap on Tranmere.

For the neutrals watching on Sky Sports it was hardly a classic. What is was though was a demonstration of how to grind out a result. I described it on X as a “gritty, horrible away performance” and I mean that in the most positive way. More of that kind of determination and we’ll win more than we lose.

After a nervy first few minutes we settled in and a superb Gabe Breeze performance ensured a third clean sheet in a row. That photo of him with the excellent XL Breeze flag may just become one of those iconic images.

Different surroundings for me on Tuesday as I welcomed our boardroom experience guests Peter and his son Jacob to Brunton Park. It was my first time in the boardroom for a game and it really was an example of how far the club has come off the field.

Similar to Thursday night, the opposition started brightly and a momentary lapse in concentration allowed Taylor Allen to put Walsall in front. Again however the Blues showed a determination and Elliot Embleton’s excellent corner was headed in by the returning Aaron Hayden.

The final 15 minutes then became an end to end scramble as both teams pushed for a winner. Jordan Jones almost sent Brunton Park into raptures with almost the last kick of the game.

Onto Trust news, our defibrillator appeal is ongoing and I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your generous donations. At the time of writing we have received £4,000 towards our £5,500 goal. This yet again shows the support this club has.

If you would like to donate you can do so here: www.cust.org.uk/donations/defib/

We have also launched our Guess The Score game. All fans can enter this game where you can predict the score of our remaining home games this season.
