Birmingham City boss Chris Davies felt his side edged a 'scrappy' contest in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Reading.

The Blues made it 16 matches unbeaten in Berkshire and extended their lead at the top of League One to six points while holding two games in hand.

Neither side were at their fluent best but the biggest chance of the afternoon fell to former Queens Park Rangers forward Lyndon Dykes, who saw his effort from point blank range blocked on the line by Amadou Mbengue.

"It was a scrappy game; the pitch was quite bobbly and neither team could get much of a rhythm," Davies told the official channel. "Both teams were trying to minimise those situations, and it was a lot of second balls and duals. Over the course of the game, I felt we were the team who deserved to win it. We had one cleared off the line and another couple of good situations but in the end, I think it was a point gained."

Davies, in his first managerial role of his career, was captain of Reading Reserves before injury ended his career aged 19.

A former coach under Brendan Rodgers, Davies spent six months on Brian McDermott's coaching staff at Reading back in 2016 before spending time with the likes of Leicester City and Celtic.

Over 2,600 travelling supporters contributed to a crowd of nearly 14,000 at the SCL Stadium, making for a terrific atmosphere.

"Amazing support, I say it every time but it’s a pleasure to be the manager of this club and see the fans supporting their team," Davies added. "There were so many of them and they were louder than the Reading fans, which says everything."

Reading are on the road this Saturday, travelling to Wigan Athletic.
