Newport County boss Nelson Jardim insisted “hard work and detail” helped them see off Carlisle United.
The Exiles manager also felt his substitutions were key to their 1-0 win against the Blues.
Carlisle had the lion’s share of the play and chances – but home sub Kyle Hudlin struck the decisive goal in the second half.
It earned Newport a fourth straight win at rock-bottom United’s expense as the south Wales outfit moved up to 14th.
“Every League Two game is difficult but we won the game from the bench with the changes that I had to make, with the shape and subs,” Jardim said in a club interview.
“We had to battle but also won it with detail. We have a good feeling in the dressing room and that makes it easier to work.
“Sometimes you work hard and don’t get what you deserve, and we went through a spell where we were playing better than we are now but results weren’t coming off for us.
“I think we won the game from the bench. Again, obviously we had to battle, but we won this game from hard work and detail.
“I’m grateful for the atmosphere and the good feeling we have and are feeling together in the dressing room.”
Newport had been in relegation trouble until recently but are now just nine points from the play-offs – and 16 above the relegation zone.
Jardim added that it was a big result for his side, whilst United’s winless record at Rodney Parade extended to ten games.
He added: “Today everything came together and my celebration was all of my emotions coming out and getting that out,” he added.
“That was just me celebrating a massive win and I think we can all agree that was a massive win for us.
"I believe in my work and the people I work with everyday staff and players. Football is about momentum and when things come together you win games.
“We knew this moment would come and the biggest challenge now is we carry this on and carry on working and improving on our performances.”
