Harry Smith said that he regrets the way he celebrated in Swindon Town's 5-4 win over Bradford City, but there was a reason for it.

Town's top goal scorer was at the centre of things again as they performed a miraculous comeback against the then-league leaders, scoring twice in the second half.

Jack Shepherd turned into his own net deep into stoppage time for the winner and had multiple Swindon players celebrate in his face as he lay on the ground.

Smith said that he was not proud of the way he celebrated but that it was not without reason.

He said: "I think [Miguel Freckleton] put in an early delivery and it was coming to me at the back stick. Their defender has an outstretched leg, and unfortunately for him, and fortunately for us, he managed to divert it past the 'keeper.

"What happened after is in the heat of the moment, and you look back at some of the images and it is not something that you are proud of.

"But things happen in games, and I don't think people see the bigger picture.

"Things happened in the game which probably warrant why we have celebrated like we did, I am not going into what that was, but we didn't just do it randomly.

"Things happened all game that me, the players, and the management were not happy with on and off the pitch.

"If you look at the image, then it does not look great, but there is a reason behind it, although it is something that we probably should not have done."

Smith added that throughout the match, there had been an undercurrent of aggression between the two sides.

He said: "It was feisty all game all around. I do not want to get into it too much here.

"Things were said on the bench that were probably past the line from staff to staff and player to player. That was going on pretty much all game.

"Right at the end, a cross came in after I had scored, I headed it, and the 'keeper saved it, and the defender shoved my face into the ground. That riled me up a little bit.

"I think the overriding emotion from three or four of us was a little bit 'Have that!' and that was probably done the wrong way.

"When you score a last-minute goal and hear the crowd and what it means to everyone, the emotion can sometimes be too much."
