Gary Rowett insists it is ‘no way near job done’ for United - Iqraa news

GARY Rowett insists it is ‘no way near job done’ for Oxford United following their impressive win against Sky Bet Championship title hopefuls Sheffield United.

Siriki Dembele scored the only goal of the match at Grenoble Road, taking advantage of the Blades failing to deal with a Will Vaulks long throw-in.

The victory lifted the U’s up to 18th in the table, four points above the relegation zone with six games to play.

United are next in action on Wednesday night when they welcome a Queens Park Rangers side sitting a point and two places above them in the standings.

U’s head coach Rowett said: “It’s no way near job done. That’s never even come into my mindset. I think what we’ve got to do is sense that it gives us a fantastic opportunity on Wednesday to try and do the same again.

“What we’ve got to make sure is we don’t underperform on Wednesday, when such a big result like this, we’ve got to go again and put another big performance in against a side in QPR who I’m sure will be fighting for their own points.

“It gives us that opportunity, but Wednesday is another day. I think we’ve got to enjoy the performance and the desire, and move on very quickly.”

Rowett added: “At this stage of the season, results become unpredictable. Some teams down at the bottom are going to beat teams at the top, and you’ve got to make sure you’re one of those teams.

“Sheffield United are desperately fighting to get their own version of success, and we’ve almost found ourselves in a position where we’ve got no choice but to scrap.

“I hoped we could get some better results earlier on to maybe not be in this position, but I think the reality is we’re a new club in this division and it’s never going to be easy.

“There’s lots of quality around and lots of clubs spending big money, and you’ve got to try and earn with these belligerent performances.”
