There’s so much up in the air with the current squad so we don’t know who could be Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement as vice-captain until the squad is put together for next year.

Will Salah be there? Will Van Dijk even be there? We still don’t know. It could be a nightmare for Liverpool come the end of the season to be honest with you.

Andy Robertson could be club captain, but is he going to still be starting? There are a lot of things to do in the summer and the left-back position is part of that. Will Tsimikas be going, leaving Robbo vying with a new left-back? We know they’re looking at it.

It’s so hard to predict what’s going to happen as so much is up in the air. We just don’t know. All we can do is sit back and wait and see.

When the squad’s assembled, then you can decide who can be the new vice-captain. If Van Dijk goes, you’re looking at the next captain too.

If Virgil stays and Mo stays, then Mohamed Salah has to be vice-captain for me. But if you have to look beyond that, maybe someone like Mac Allister. He’s more experienced than the others and has been right at the top of the game, winning the World Cup with Argentina.

The way he holds himself on the pitch, probably him. But there’s no glaring captain material. Mo, because he’s been there such a long time and has legendary status.

Mo knows what he’s going to do and what he wants to do with his contract. A potential vice-captaincy won’t make any difference to him.

Can Konate do it if he stays? We’ll wait and see. Robbo in his younger days would have been the one, we’ll have to wait and see.

Forwards haven’t been good enough

Whatever’s been going on before the international break, the players have to get it out of their minds. In the last few games, all the forwards haven’t had their minds on the game and it’s cost Liverpool matches.

Subsequently we’ve faltered and we’re not scoring goals for the first time this season. Whatever they’ve got going on, they’ve got to focus and put it all on Everton. That’s the main thing.

They have to be at it. They have to be at it in front of goal. There’s pressure on them and they’ve got to rise above it. When the chances come, they’ve got to stick it in the back of the net.

Look at the PSG game. The forwards cost us. The first 15 minutes, if we score a goal when we have three great chances, we go through.

Against Newcastle, we didn’t create an awful lot. Chiesa came on and showed them how it’s done. You get one chance, you put it in the back of the net. But they’ve got to do better.

Obviously Salah has to start. But I don’t know who starts alongside him. It’s like throwing blind darts at a dart board, they’ve all not been up to scratch.

Hopefully Gakpo is back at it so he starts on the left. I wouldn’t start Nunez. But then Jota or Nunez, what do you do? The way they’ve both been playing, I’d probably put Diaz down the middle.

Jota is off it, Nunez is off it and we need to get goals. They can still come off the bench and prove a point. It’s a tough one and it’ll be interesting to see what the manager goes for.

Nunez will at least give you some fight up front. That could work against Everton and the big centre-halves, but it’s a tricky one.

Don’t gift Everton set-pieces

The derby is going to be a tricky game. David Moyes has done a great job. He has solidified them.

The way we are at the moment, I think they’ll quietly fancy their chances of upsetting the apple cart and getting a result.

Don’t allow silly free-kicks in our defensive third. Don’t concede many corners. If you have to, you have to. But we have to deal with them better than we did against Newcastle, because that will be Everton’s plan.

David Moyes’ plan will be to rough us up in midfield, scrap and make it a bitty game. That’s how I’d approach it as well. And then try to win free-kicks and corners to put us under pressure.

They’ve got three lump hammers at the back in Branthwaite, O’Brien and Tarkowski. And they’re all a danger from set-plays.

After what we did against Newcastle, Everton will be licking their lips and rubbing their hands together. They’ll want to make us pay so we’ve got to be careful.

But if we play like we can, like Liverpool of two months ago, we’ll win the game. But again, it’s all down to the forwards. The forwards have to score goals. They’ve not been good enough for a team who are top of the league.
