Aaron Hayden is Carlisle United’s main injury question mark as the Blues prepare to face MK Dons tonight.

The defender was ruled out of the squad with a hamstring problem for Saturday’s victory over Bromley.

Boss Mark Hughes is monitoring the centre-back but United’s improved display against Bromley may make it less urgent to rush Hayden back.

Either way, he will be assessed closely ahead of tonight’s contest at Brunton Park.

“He had tightness in his hamstrings, so we’ll have to wait and see,” said Hughes.

“If [he’s] not [available], we can look at other things again.”

United’s boss must make a decision on whether to stick with the XI that started Saturday’s crucial victory.

The recalled duo of Stephen Wearne and Callum Whelan are likely to keep their places after their goalscoring impact in the 2-1 win.

Hughes could also give midfielder Josh Vela his third consecutive start after his battling display three days ago.

On the bench, the head coach shuffled things around on Saturday, saying that Cedwyn Scott had been omitted from the 18 because he had not trained well enough during the week.

Scott was left out along with players such as Joe Hugill, Will Patching and former MK Dons man Ethan Robson, with the likes of Jack Ellis and Sean Fusire coming back into the squad.

Loan defender Charlie McArthur will miss a second successive Blues game as he remains with Scotland Under-21s, who face Iceland in Spain this afternoon.
