Manchester United could be buoyed by the return of several players when they resume their season against Nottingham Forest next Tuesday.

United won their last Premier League fixture against Leicester City with nine players absent through injury and Patrick Dorgu unavailable due to suspension.

Harry Maguire was not risked at Leicester nine days ago but the Forest game has been targeted as his return from a four-week absence.

United head coach Ruben Amorim is also hopeful Kobbie Mainoo will be back after a two-month spell on the sidelines with a muscle injury. A club source said a number of players' availability against Forest depends on how they come through training this week.

Ayden Heaven wore a protective boot after he sustained an injury at Leicester but is now out of it and has a chance of participating in training when United's international players return. Leny Yoro missed the victories against Leicester and Real Sociedad with a foot injury.

Back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton is confident of regaining fitness for United's April schedule. United were almost forced into starting rookie academy goalkeeper Dermot Mee against Leicester after Andre Onana suffered an eye issue the day before the game. Number two goalie Altay Bayindir has been out injured for nearly two months.

Amorim said after the Leicester win that Luke Shaw is "going to be ready soon". Shaw has not started a match for United since February 18 last year and he has been unavailable for four months with a hamstring problem. The 29-year-old briefly resumed full training in late January but suffered a setback.

Mason Mount returned to the United squad after a three-month absence at Leicester. Dorgu has served his three-match ban for a red card against Ipswich Town and is set to be named in the squad against Forest.

United have an unusually long 16-day gap between fixtures as the top-flight season restarts with the FA Cup quarter-finals this weekend. Andre Onana, Noussair Mazraoui, Manuel Ugarte and Victor Lindelof are the only remaining United internationals set to participate for their nations on Tuesday evening.

Dorgu, Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Matthijs de Ligt had the benefit of their international stints ending on Sunday in the Nations League quarter-finals. Dorgu, Eriksen, Hojlund, Fernandes and Dalot started in Portugal's 5-2 triumph over Denmark and De Ligt was an unused substitute for the Netherlands in Spain.

"Some of the players are going to rest more days than usual," Amorim said nine days ago. "So we are going to divide and give different things for different players and try to be ready for the final two months."
