NEWCASTLE United transfer target Dean Huijsen insists he isn't thinking about his future, despite the growing interest from a number of clubs, including Real Madrid.

Huijsen has enjoyed a hugely impressive first season in the Premier League with Bournemouth following his summer move from Juventus.

The 19-year-old has quickly developed into one of the most exciting prospects in the English game and his form has grabbed the attention of several of Europe's biggest clubs.

Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked, as well as Newcastle, who will prioritise the capture of a central defender in the summer transfer window.

Huijsen has a £50m release clause in his Bournemouth contract, meaning it's unlikely the Cherries will be able to keep hold of the teenager this summer.

The central defender's stock rose further last week when he made his senior debut for Spain in their 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in Rotterdam.

And Huijsen was quizzed on his future and, in particular, the Real Madrid links.

He told El Chiringuito: "Would I like to play for Real Madrid? At the moment I'm not thinking about it.

"I'm thinking about finishing the season well and then when the right time comes, we'll see.

"It's an honour that such an important team is interested in you. But we have to continue working and stay humble."

Newcastle have been in the market for a central defender since last summer, when they failed in their long and high-profile pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

Lloyd Kelly arrived from Bournemouth last summer but left in January in a £20m deal that will help to give the Magpies some crucial PSR leeway ahead of the coming windows.

But with Jamaal Lascelles' future uncertain, Newcastle do look short at the back and strengthening in central defence will be a priority for Howe and the club's recruitment team.

Fabian Schar is approaching the end of his current contract but is expected to sign a new deal.
