England have plenty of room for improvement, insists Thomas Tuchel - Iqraa news

Thomas Tuchel insists there is plenty of room for improvement after opening his time as England manager with a 2-0 win over Albania at Wembley.

Goals from debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane were enough to get England's World Cup qualifying campaign off to a winning start, with England at relative ease for much of the proceedings.

Yet despite the manner of their victory, Tuchel has already outlined areas he believes the Three Lions can improve upon as they work towards winning the 2026 World Cup in just over a year's time, with a visit from Latvia next on the agenda on Monday.

"I was quite happy with the start and the structure in the start," he said. "We were structured in our attacks and we tried to find gaps.

"It was a very fluid game but in the opponent's half and unfortunately not in the last 20 metres.

"I have the feeling that in the second half, there was a little bit more frustration, we didn't play with the same confidence in our structure and everyone tried out of position and it becomes more complicated than before.

"We will get better, get more rhythm and I will understand the players better, where they feel confident and where they struggle.

"To find more runs, more aggressive movement into the last third and from there we will get better to implement a higher rhythm and be simply a little bit more dangerous in front of goal.

"It's step-by-step, it was complicated opponent. They play an unorthodox style, and individually we can have more impact from the wingers and we can play more diagonal through the gaps and not always around the block. I have to have a look at it."

Debutant Lewis-Skelly opened the scoring after just 20 minutes when he latched onto Jude Bellingham's incisive ball before Tuchel's men secured all three points when Harry Kane doubled their advantage in the 77th minute.

Lewis-Skelly needed less than half an hour to make an impact on his England debut and Tuchel lavished praise on the young Arsenal defender for his performance.

Tuchel added: "He was amazing in camp, full of confidence and very full of humour and such an open and mature character. You see everything what you see on the pitch off the pitch and he was straightaway part of the group it's very impressive.

"He does it with a natural confidence and this is how he plays football. It was a great performance, full of courage, full of quality and even more so with his run behind the line, he was decisive in opening the game for us and that was amazing."
