Wanderers youngster Sam Inwood made his debut for Northern Ireland Under-21s in a 1-1 draw against Moldova.
Inwood was included in the starting line-up and cleared a goal-bound header off the line early in the second half.
Moldova had gone in front inside the opening 10 minutes when Nicolae Rotaru latched onto a ball over the top and lifted the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.
Northern Ireland got back on level terms midway through the second half when a defender was judged to have handled in the area and Rio Oudnie-Morgan stepped up to slot home from the spot.
They couldn’t quite find a winner in the final stages, with Bayley McCann and Conor Falls both going close.
The fixture was the start of a four-team mini tournament being held in Turkey. Tommy Wright’s side also face Ukraine on Saturday before taking on Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
The matches are in preparation for the Euro U21 Championship qualifying campaign, which kicks off in September.
Wright’s side will be facing Germany, Georgia, Greece, Latvia and Malta in Group F as they aim to reach the finals in Albania and Serbia in two years’ time.
The group winners will qualify along with the runner-up with the best record. The other runners-up will progress to the play-offs to determined the remaining four finalists.
Inwood was called up for the first time after an impressive spell climbing up Wanderers’ Academy ranks.
The 19-year-old has impressed for Andy Taylor's side in the Central League and has also spent time around the first-team squad.
He came off the bench against Aston Villa U21s in the Vertu Trophy group stage earlier this season, playing the final 15 minutes at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
