After a stint as interim manager of England's senior team, former Birmingham City midfielder Lee Carsley has expressed his satisfaction upon resuming his role with the England Under-21 squad.

The 51 year old, who took charge temporarily following Gareth Southgate's exit and led the team to five victories out of six Nations League games, has returned to his duties ahead of crucial matches against France and Portugal, as the Euros draw closer.

Speaking on his experience, he revealed, "I wouldn't say I was missing it but it was something I really enjoyed. It was a brilliant three windows for us."

Carsley highlighted the joy of working with the players and their performances, particularly at Wembley: "It was great to get to know some of the players and see some of the performances that they did. I enjoyed watching them especially the last game at Wembley."

Focused on self-improvement, Carsley remarked, "I need to make sure I keep improving. It's important I keep pushing myself. Who knows what happens in the future."

He also shared his contentment with his current role: "It's something we showed we can do. I'm really happy and content with the Under-21s, really enjoy doing my job, I'm very privileged."

After Thomas Tuchel became England boss in October, he recently oversaw his first camp ahead of qualifiers with Albania and Latvia. Three of Carsley's Under-21 players, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Adam Wharton, and Liam Delap, joined the senior squad's training this week.

Communicating with Tuchel has been positive, according to Carsley.

He shared his positive experience with the new management, saying: "It's been good getting to know someone, not only Thomas but his staff as well.

"We had Gareth for eight years but we are really enjoying Thomas and his staff at the minute and I'm trying to support them as much as we can.

"It was good that some players were able to go over and we have good communication so hopefully that can continue."
