This summer is shaping up to be one of the most important periods in Manchester United's history.

While every summer transfer window in recent times has been billed as such, head coach Ruben Amorim's style of play means it's never been more important for United to get their recruitment right.

You'd need more than one hand to count the number of positions United need to strengthen in this summer, but the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules mean they will need to be clever in the market. The days of throwing big money at problems look to be well and truly over - and perhaps that's not a bad thing.

As we look ahead to the summer transfer window, it's easy to forget - and some fans probably want to forget - that there's still the small matter of the Premier League run-in to come. United have very little left to play for in the league but that's not to say the end of the season should be considered a write-off. Amorim needs to assess his squad ahead of a crucial transfer window and so the run-in will be key to shaping the summer.
