If Manchester United's supporters have any wish for this international break it will be that Ayden Heaven's injury is not overly serious.

The centre-back was forced off prematurely on his full Premier League debut against Leicester City on Sunday night after a coming together with Foxes attacker Patson Daka. He required treatment from both United and Leicester medics before being carried off on a stretcher.

He later left the stadium wearing a protective boot, sparking fears he could be the latest United defender set for a spell on the sidelines. However, he did leave the ground walking unaided, which was a positive sign.

Prior to being forced off, Heaven was enjoying another accomplished showing on the left of United's back-three. It was just his fifth outing of his senior career and he did not look out of place.

He produced a fantastic double block in quick succession towards the end of the first half along with two clearances and winning two tackles. On the ball, he completed 88 per cent of his attempted passes, with his aim regularly to advance the ball. His left-footed presence on the left of the back-three has provided some much-needed balance in the last two games.

What has been most striking about Heaven's start to his United career has been his calmness and composure. He is assured with the ball at his feet and Ruben Amorim joked after the draw with Arsenal last weekend that "sometimes he is too relaxed".

But it was his composure that earned special praise from Wayne Rooney during his analysis of the youngster's performance against Leicester, with the former striker telling BBC Match of the Day: "He has come in from Arsenal so he knows what it is like to be at a big club; I think that will have helped him.

"He doesn't look like he is playing with pressure, he looks calm, he's composed, he gives them good balance with his left foot, he looks quick and he looks like he likes defending. I think he is a real coup for Manchester United."

Heaven joined United from Arsenal at the very start of February after the two clubs had agreed on a compensation package for the 18-year-old. He left the Gunners having made just one competitive appearance - a cameo in a League Cup win over Preston North End earlier this season.

However, he did feature on the Gunners' pre-season tour last summer and started their 2-1 win over United in the US. He was given the slip by Rasmus Hojlund for the game's opening goal but later recovered, producing a showing that forced Mikel Arteta into commenting on his composure.

"I don't know how many players are able to do that on a stage like this [at his age]," said the Arsenal boss. "He's lost a duel against Hojlund, one of the strongest and fastest players in the world, it can happen.

"But the reaction afterwards, the composure, the quality, the body language that he had were all remarkable. I'm really happy with him."

Having attracted praise from his current boss, his former boss and one of United's greatest ever players for his composure, it is quickly becoming clear what his greatest strength is. To be able to produce such levels of calmness at a young age is going to stand him in good stead as he continues to develop.

Of course, he is still in the very early stages of his career, and a dip in form is inevitable, but the current signs are very promising. As Rooney said, United may have pulled off a real coup.
