Thomas Tuchel has awarded Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly his first senior international call-up in his maiden camp as England boss.
The 18-year-old has represented England at Under-16s level through to Under-19s, most recently featuring in November’s U19 Euros qualifiers.
However, he will now bypass two age groups and step up to the senior squad amid the finite resources at left-back.
Newcastle’s Lewis Hall was considered the natural choice on the left of defence, albeit a season-ending foot injury forced Tuchel to fast-track Lewis-Skelly’s promotion.
Crystal Palace duo Ben Chilwell and Tyrick Mitchell would have given Tuchel food for thought, while Djed Spence has impressed at Spurs.
But the Three Lions coach has opted for a couple of new call-ups at left-back, with 32-year-old Dan Burn joining Lewis-Skelly in the squad.
Lewis-Skelly only made his senior debut for Arsenal in September’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City but has since become a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The Hale End graduate has racked up 25 appearances for the Gunners this term, scoring his first senior goal in February’s 5-1 win over Manchester City.
England face Albania (21st March) and Latvia (24th March) in the opening two matches of their World Cup qualifying campaign at Wembley.
