Jamie Carragher was forced to leave the CBS studio on Wednesday night during its coverage of the Champions League after falling ill.
The 2005 Champions League winner and Telegraph Sport columnist returned to punditry duties alongside Thierry Henry and Micah Richards for Wednesday’s coverage of Aston Villa’s clash with Club Brugge, Arsenal’s match against PSV Eindhoven and the Madrid derby between Real and Atlético.
But he was forced to come off air after starting to feel unwell before half-time, with Henry and Richards taking care of post-match analysis alongside presenter Kate Scott.
Telegraph Sport can confirm that Carragher’s illness is not deemed a serious issue.
To open Wednesday’s coverage, Scott joked at Carragher’s expense with her usual light-hearted introductions, having seen him absent from Tuesday’s coverage after taking his place in the Kop for Liverpool’s Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain.
Welcoming him back to the line-up, Scott said: “Hello, welcome to our London studios. I am Kate Scott and I am once again joined by Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.
“Tonight, just like the story of the prodigal son. A bit too big for his boots, he thought life would be sweeter on the road. He thought he would be away, enjoying drinking and revelling, but he took a major loss and realised his foolishness.
“He came home, humbled. Hoping that he would be accepted. Jamie Carragher, back in the chair.”
Carragher responded, “I’m back, thank you” before shaking hands with Richards and Henry.
Adding his thoughts on Liverpool’s penalty shoot-out exit, he added: “I am a bit deflated about the result but listen, the best team won – PSG.”
“We saw how they performed in the first leg to make it 1-0. I called it a robbery. In this game, I thought the first 20 minutes to half an hour, I felt like Liverpool were going to go on and win the game comfortably,” he added.
“They just couldn’t get that goal early on. They had two or three chances they didn’t put away, then PSG got that goal.”
