Michael Adu-Poku has joined National League side Rochdale on loan until May 5.

It will be the 19-year-old’s second loan spell of the season after making 13 appearances for Solihull Moors between October and December, scoring once.

Adu-Poku last featured for the Moors on Boxing Day – coming off after 22 minutes against Boston United due to injury – and was recalled by the Hornets the following month.

Since then Adu-Poku has appeared once for Watford, coming off the bench during the 1-0 defeat to Norwich City on February 1.

He now joins a Rochdale team who are seventh in the National League, four points behind the play-off places but with at least two games in hand on every side above them.

Last night they won 3-0 at home to Altrincham, the club they leapfrogged in the table as a result of the three points.

Dale are also one game away from Wembley after reaching the semi-finals of the FA Trophy, where they will host Spennymoor Town.

Adu-Poku joined Solihull Moors in October, starting his career in the Midlands with an assist and a Man of the Match performance on his debut against Barnet which they won 4-3.

In November, he scored in a 6-0 win at Ebbsfleet United away from home.

He first joined Watford in 2018 at the age of 12, impressing when on a trial period with the club and worked his way up the academy ranks until making his senior debut in January 2023 in the FA Cup away at Reading.

His first league appearance came two weeks later at Vicarage Road against Rotherham United.

He then spent time on loan with the Hornets’ neighbours King’s Langley before joining Maidstone United in March of last year where he made six appearances in the National League South.

Adu-Poku trained with the first team during the summer and earned himself a new three-year deal in October.

The forward has been given squad number 11 at Rochdale and could make his debut away at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.
