Liverpool were sent tumbling out of the Champions League in disappointing fashion when they were beaten on penalties at home by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening. Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the game early on in the first half to level the aggregate score at 1-1 before Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed their spot kicks as the French side scored all theirs to win 4-1.
The results means Arne Slot's must lift themselves for Sunday's League Cup final against Newcastle United while standing 15 points clear at the Premier League summit.
Here the ECHO rates the Liverpool players after a forgettable European night at Anfield.

Alisson Becker 8
Smothering stops to deny Barcola and Dembele first half and couldn’t do much about the visitors’ opener. Confident claiming corners but beaten for all four penalties in shoot-out.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 8
One overly-confident run aside, decent opening period particularly in attack. Dealt well with Kvarataskhelia on the whole and became huge threat going forward after break. Injury a massive concern. Subbed.
Ibrahima Konate 6
A touch unfortunate that attempt to cut out Barcola cross teed up the PSG opener. Runs out of defence brought mixed reward.
Virgil van Dijk 7
Some defending was necessarily last-ditch as PSG countered before break. Threat at set-pieces and began to push forward very high second half.
Andy Robertson 7
Exposed for the opener down his flank but wasn’t detracted and regularly offered himself going forward and became big danger longer game progressed.
Ryan Gravenberch 6
Much more effective that last week but influence only occasional when in possession. One good block denied Kvaratshelia, and did well to keep going in extra time.
Alexis Mac Allister 7
Got into some good attacking position early on but lost ball cheaply for one PSG opening. Started second half on a mission. Booked and subbed.
Mohamed Salah 6
Shot wide and effort blocked brilliantly and certainly had more joy early on up against Mendes than last week, although that slowly became a losing battle second half.
Dominik Szoboszlai 7
Key to Liverpool’s strong start, led the press superbly in the first quarter and used the ball well. Denied by Donnarumma and left everything out on the pitch. Subbed.
Luis Diaz 7
Another who started well but faded a little towards half-time. Direct running caused PSG defence issues after interval, however, and didn’t stop trying. Subbed.
Diogo Jota 5
Plenty of effort and header over from corner before half-time, but didn’t always make right choice in possession. Second half similarly frustrating. Subbed.
Darwin Nunez (for Jota 73) 5
Became an instant menace for the under-pressure PSG defence but impact soon lessened and missed his penalty.
Jarell Quansah (for Alexander-Arnold 73) 7
Won a corner and then hit the inside of the post within minutes of coming on. Impressive cameo.
Curtis Jones (for Mac Allister 91) 5
Willingness to keep hold of ball helped in Paris but hindered here. Missed penalty in shoot-out.
Cody Gakpo (for Diaz 101) 5
Wasn’t able to make too much impact as Liverpool tired, and didn’t look fit.
Harvey Elliott (for Szoboszslai 106) 6
Couldn’t repeat his heroics of last week.
Wataru Endo (for Konate 111)
Required as an emergency centre-back.
