NEIL LAFFERTY was the leading light from Greenock Glenpark Harriers at the Scottish National Masters indoor championship event in Glasgow.

The atmosphere at the Emirates Arena, set to host the Commonwealth Games’ return to the city next year, was buzzing, with athletes of all ages competing across various event.

Neil showcased his talent by winning the 3,000 metres race, earning the title of Scottish V45 champion.

From the moment the gun fired, Neil took the lead and never looked back. He steadily increased his advantage over Ayr Seaforth AC’s Kenneth Neil, who also ran a commendable race to secure his first national medal.

This title adds to Neil’s impressive performance the previous weekend in the 1500m, where he collected a silver national medal. In the 3,000 metres race, Neil clocked an incredible time of 9:21.02.

Neil’s clubmate, Andy McCall, also competed in the V35 category in the first 3,000 metre race of the day; Andy aimed to set a new personal best and was delighted to cross the line in a new PB of 9:19.01, finishing just outside the medals in fourth place, but an amazing performance all the same as Andy continues to go from strength to strength.

The event was a resounding success for the Harriers, with Jill Cox leading the charge alongside Neil by securing three national medals across the two weekend events.

Their achievements highlight the athletes’ dedication and talent and show a growing strength and depth in the Harriers’ ranks.
