Liverpool legend Ian Rush does not want to see Mohamed Salah leave the club under any circumstance, despite it potentially meaning the Egyptian surpasses his goals for the Reds.

Rush currently sits top of Liverpool's all-time top goalscorer list, having found the back of the next 346 times for the Reds. Right now, Salah sits third on the list, having scored 242 goals in all competitions for the Reds.

Roger Hunt is second with 285 goals, a feat that Salah will not be able to surpass should he leave the club this summer when his contract expires. The 32-year-old's deal which he signed back in 2022, is up this summer.

And despite looking like he has guided the Reds to another Premier League title this term, with Arne Slot's side sitting 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal heading into the backend of the 2024/25 campaign, it is not a guarantee Salah will be on Merseyside next season.

However, one individual who wants to see Salah stay beyond this season is Rush. The legendary Reds forward has a good relationship with the Egyptian, admitting "records are there to be broken".

Speaking to Amazon Prime ahead of the Reds Champions League clash with PSG, Rush said: "No, without a doubt [Rush wants Salah to stay].

"I'm a great believer that records are there to be broken, but you've gotta be winning trophies. I'm a good friend of Mohamed as well, so if you do it, make sure you're winning trophies!

He added: "Yeah it'll probably be a three-year [contract needed to break his record]. Nobody knows what's gonna happen, at the moment he's enjoying playing, he's playing the best in the world at the moment, so let's enjoy him and see what happens at the end of the season."

Liverpool.com says: "The reality of the situation is it will cost Liverpool a fortune to replace Salah's goals and assists, so much so that it just makes sense to give him an extension.

"The lure of Saudi Arabia and the money they can offer would likely prove difficult to turndown - but Salah has publicly stated he wants to stay on Merseyside.

"He has been the Reds best player this season and it seems unthinkable his final action at Anfield as a Liverpool player could be to lift the Premier League title in May before departing for pastures new."
