With Manchester City falling to defeat against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea can take full advantage and reclaim fourth place in the Premier League table with victory over Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca has set his side a target of qualifying for next season's Champions League and will know the importance of avoiding a slip-up this afternoon especially with London derbies against Arsenal and Tottenham on the horizon.
The Blues thumped Southampton 4-0 last time out in the league and host the Foxes on the back of a 2-1 win over Copenhagen in the Conference League three days ago. Several key players are expected to earn recalls to the starting lineup after being rested in midweek, but Moises Caicedo is walking the disciplinary tight-rope as a booking today will mean he has to serve a two-match Premier League suspension.
Leicester currently sit second from bottom, six points from safety and have lost their last four games in a row without scoring. Any positive result in west London for Ruud van Nistelrooy's side would be a major shock. Chelsea are weighing up a return for Romeo Lavia this afternoon as Leicester visit in the Premier League.
Lavia has been struggling since mid-December with a hamstring problem and his absence has coincided with Chelsea’s mid-season dip in form.
After missing five Premier League matches, the midfielder briefly returned to play against Bournemouth and then Morecambe in the third round of the FA Cup in January, but has not been seen since.
Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the Belgian has returned to training this week, but he is not fit to start against Leicester.
