Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has suggested that Alejandro Garnacho was showing a lack of energy tonight as his team was held to a draw by Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Garnacho started on the right side of the two No.10s on Thursday evening as the Reds looked to provide more of a threat in the attacking areas. That decision looked to be fruitful when the Argentine squared the ball from the right to Joshua Zirkzee who fired home for United.

They would be pegged back almost 15 minutes later when Bruno Fernandes was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring from the spot. With 13 minutes remaining, Garnacho would be replaced and TNT Sports showed images of the winger looking frustrated on the bench but there was no suggestion that this was due to him being substituted.

During the post-match analysis though, Scholes explained why he was disappointed with Garnacho's 'sulking' during the draw. "I don’t think there is great legs in this Manchester United team but they didn’t need them," the former midfielder explained.

"We saw how Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, who has been slagged off all his career for not having great legs, but he is a great footballer, he knows how to play the position and he was never threatened. Where I was a little bit disappointed with Garnacho is that his biggest strength is running through, he gives you penetration.

"Sometimes he makes the wrong decisions, he does the wrong finish or he doesn’t give the right ball, but it was just that lack of energy tonight from him and a little bit of sulking. Look, he will get better and he needs to get better because they haven’t really got anything else to call upon."
