Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes supporters are having the life drained out of them at Old Trafford having watched the FA Cup defeat to Fulham from the stands on Sunday.
United failed to excite the home supporters throughout the fifth round tie and were behind at the break thanks to Calvin Bassey's header. Bruno Fernandes equalised with 20 minutes remaining to give the Reds a brief glimmer of success but their delight would be short-lived.
Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee both missed crucial penalties in the shootout as United lost 4-3 and crashed out of another cup competition. With Neville not a pundit for FA Cup fixtures, he took the opportunity to sit in the stands for the tie and was left with a depressing idea of what it is like for supporters at present.

"I thought it was really sad on Sunday, look I’ve been there for bad games… but this just felt very different with me not working the game and sat in the crowd, listening to the fans around me," he told the " target="_blank" class="link"> It's Called Soccer podcast. "The fans around you are just despondent, they really are sort of down in the dumps and you know the saddest thing for me was walking out of Old Trafford.
"The final penalty gets missed… you walk out the stadium… there's thousands of fans there and it was really quiet there wasn't really any anger there wasn't really any sort of emotion sort of negatively and I just thought, they're having the life drained out of them." Neville went on to slam the configuration of the squad which was assembled mainly by Erik ten Hag at the start of the season.
"The balance of the team's wrong. They've got no pace up front… What chance has Hojlund got?" He continued.
"If you haven't got people running past you, if you haven't got people feeding you… other than Bruno I don't know how Manchester United were ever going to actually get a goal or an assist on Sunday." Neville will likely be back on punditry duty at Old Trafford this weekend when the Reds host Arsenal in the Premier League.
