A gala for pool stars of the future has been renamed in honour of a dedicated swimming coach following her retirement.

Watford Swimming Club had decided to rename its May Development Gala after Claire Houchin, who has called time on her coaching career after spending the last 17 years as skills development coach.

“Many of the older swimmers at the club, when aged eight or nine, would have had Claire as their first coach and would have learnt their core skills from Claire’s dedicated and passionate coaching,” said club president Gareth Harper.

“Also the current skills development squads are developing into strong competitive swimmers thanks to Claire’s coaching.

“In honour of Claire’s achievements, we have renamed our May Development Gala the Claire Houchin Skills Development Gala.”

Claire said she has had a wonderful time at Watford, and will have fond memories of working with so many talented, enthusiastic and friendly swimmers, as well as the volunteers, parents and committee.
