Manchester United have been handed a potential boost to their hopes of signing Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window, with his current club Wolves announcing a loss in their latest set of financial results.
United are one of a few teams linked with a potential summer move for the 25-year-old. He has been a standout player for Wolves so far this season, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists in 28 appearances in all competitions, and is set to be key in their fight for survival between now and the end of the campaign.
He was linked with a move away from Molineux in the January window with United one of the teams said to be interested. But he instead put pen-to-paper on a new deal with Wolves.

It is, however, said that the deal includes a release clause in the region of £62.5 million. United have now been offered hope that Wolves could possibly accept a fee less than that.
In releasing their financial results for the 2023/24 season, Wolves have confirmed a net loss of £14.3 million.
The Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) is something that is under consideration for most clubs. In their financial results, Wolves have said that “financial performance against the PSR criteria is constantly monitored and updated as a minimum month on month, to mitigate the risk of such sanctions by maintaining a comfortable headroom position, ensuring decisions taken such forcasting do not compromise a comfortable level of headroom.”
The loss means that Wolves could, possibly, be forced to cash in on Cunha in the summer to help with maintaining that headroom around PSR. That could especially be the case if they are relegated at the end of the season.
It’s a situation that United may be keeping a close eye on in regards to Cunha. If they can get him for a cheaper price than his reported release clause, then that would also be a PSR boost to United, who themselves will need to be aware of the thresholds.
