ALEXANDER ISAK is missing as Newcastle United take on Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

Isak is struggling with what has been described as a "minor groin problem", and Magpies head coach Eddie Howe has decided not to take any risks with his side's leading goalscorer.

With Isak not in the matchday squad, Callum Wilson will start up front as he makes his first league start of the season.

Howe has made two changes to the side that started Sunday's win over Nottingham Forest, with Sandro Tonali also returning to the starting line-up.

Tonali was struggling with a hamstring issue in the build-up to Sunday's game and was only deemed fit enough to be a second-half substitute.

He starts at Anfield tonight though, replacing Lewis Miley, who drops down to the substitutes' bench as Howe sticks with Joe Willock in his starting side.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has made two changes to the side that beat Manchester City at the weekend, with Kostas Tsimkas and Diogo Jota starting in place of Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones.

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jota, Diaz.

Subs: Kelleher, Endo, Nunez, Chiesa, Jones, Gakpo, Elliott, Robertson, Quansah.

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3): Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Wilson, Gordon.

Subs:  Dubravka, Ruddy, Trippier, Targett, Krafth, Longstaff, Miley, Barnes, Osula.
