Even as Liverpool processes to the title, Arne Slot is clear: he and the recruitment team have identified numerous areas to strengthen in the summer transfer market. That's an ominous sign for rivals, but an agent thinks it might be good news for a $50m target.

This, at last, could be the year when FSG strengthens from a position of strength in the transfer market. After the last title triumph, Jurgen Klopp was only furnished with Andy Lonergan, Adrian, and Sepp van den Berg, but the signs this time are very different as Slot closes in.

Apart from anything else, Klopp's fierce loyalty to his players was no doubt one of the reasons behind a slight reluctance to refresh and replace. Slot comes across as more pragmatic, and has had less time to build such unbreakable bonds with a group that is still not his own.

Which takes us to the second reason to expect a busy summer. Liverpool was remarkably inactive in this season's transfer market, adding only Federico Chiesa (while agreeing a future deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili) — the stage is clearly set for some significant investment now that Slot has his feet under the table.

And he's not the only one who has got to grips with his role. Richard Hughes and the returning Michael Edwards have also had plenty of time to draw up strategies and targets, and by all accounts will be empowered to lead the club forward.

Of course, there's still a big question mark over whether that journey forward will feature Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. That will inevitably have a major bearing on the transfer business that needs to be done.

But even if they stay, there will still be the matter of succession planning, especially in respect of Salah and Van Dijk. All three of the out-of-contract players also played significant roles in the last title win almost five years ago, underlining the changing age profile of the squad, and further necessitating summer business in spite of the on-pitch success.

While not out of contract, Andy Robertson is another who now qualifies for "stalwart" status. After years of exemplary service, there is a feeling that his days as a guaranteed starter might be coming to an end.

Enter, perhaps, Milos Kerkez. The Bournemouth player has probably been the division's stand-out left-back this season, and has drawn admiring glances.

Some of those have come from Manchester United. But by far the more appealing option for Kerkez is surely Liverpool, currently 34 points and 14 places better off — with both rivals credited with an interest in a $50m (£40m) transfer.

Indeed, there's a strong argument that going from Bournemouth to Manchester United would be a sporting downgrade for Kerkez. And with Jim Ratcliffe's cut-backs, he couldn't bank on a pay rise — the way the cost-saving measures are going, he might have to get used to gruel at the canteen too.

So Liverpool looks like a smart next career move. Soccer agent Richard Henczi agrees, and believes that Kerkez has enough quality to fit in at Anfield.

"I think he’s ready to go to a higher level club [than Bournemouth]," Henczi told Anfield Watch. "If he wants to go to Liverpool, he will go to Liverpool.

"I mean he has everything. I think he can’t be in the top five left-backs around the world if he plays at a smaller club.

"So it depends on his next transfer. How many minutes will he play there and how well will he play there?"

Minutes at Liverpool would not be guaranteed, but this summer does look like one where Slot, Hughes et al will preside over a changing of the guard. Whether Kerkez is among those chosen remains to be seen — but if the potential champions come calling, he would surely be wise to answer.
