Swindon Town protest group The Spirit of ’69 have revealed they have turned down a meeting with Clem Morfuni and Anthony Hall.
Last week, the group wrote an open letter to the club proposing an independently chaired public meeting open to all fans, in which the Swindon hierarchy would answer pre-submitted questions to give them time to prepare.
The Spirit of ’69 formed in November and have held two public protests trying to get Morfuni to publicly put the club up for sale due to their belief in his “incompetence” as an owner.
On February 24, three days after their open letter, the protest group posted a statement on X discussing the response they received from the club.
The statement said: “Having waited 13 days for a promised follow-up from Swindon Town, Anthony Hall responded to our open letter on Friday in less than 90 minutes.
“Mr Hall has offered SO69 a private meeting with himself and Clem Morfuni next week, which we have firmly rejected, reiterating our stance that time spent with the three of us should be spent serving all Swindon fans.
“Secondly, Mr Hall mentioned that our proposed public meeting is not possible as there is a Fans' Forum upcoming (in April, not March FYI). There is still no confirmed date, format, host or venue for this forum.
“We have responded with a clear message that unless a commitment is made that the Fans' Forum will meet all of our terms of meeting, we will not endorse that as the public meeting we have called for in our open letter and continue to campaign for a more neutral and effective public meeting with all Significant Persons.”
Morfuni has said consistently that whilst he is not actively looking to sell the club, he would be willing to do so if the right offer came in.
He said in November: “If there is anyone out there who can show me their proof of funds and a letter of offer then I will gladly sit down with them.
“I have never shied away from that and said that I am never going to sell the club.
“If these guys can do a better job than me then show me the offer; there are a lot of people who talk a lot and I have had a lot of people come to me saying they want to buy the club, so I ask for their proof of funds but nobody does.”
