Logan Chalmers has called on his Partick Thistle team-mates to show more bravery on the ball after the Jags let a one-goal lead slip at home to Airdrieonians on Saturday.

Club captain Brian Graham, who is leading the team in the interim alongside Under-18s manager Mark Wilson after Kris Doolan was sacked last week, gave Thistle a first-half lead against the relegation-threatened Diamonds at Firhill.

But the team’s display dipped in the second half and when Ben Wilson drew Rhys McCabe’s men level, the Jags had little response as the game finished one apiece.

Graham pointed to the team’s lack of fitness in his post-match interview as the primary reason for the dropped points, but Chalmers believes the Jags have another problem: being brave on the ball when responding to adversity.

“I’m disappointed, especially at home,” Chalmers, who was awarded man of the match on Saturday, said. “We'd like to think we should be winning games like that.

“It's been a tough week for the club and it was a chance for us to react and put on a good performance, which I think in the first half we did and then in the second half, we gave away a goal.

“We just seemed to go down. I don't know what happens after the goal, we stop doing what we're good at. So, yeah, it's disappointing.

“I thought in the first half, once we scored the early goal, I thought we were probably going to go on and just keep scoring, but it didn't go that way.

“You don't want to dig people out, but I think in general, we seem to just have a bit of fear that we don't want to give away another one. So, we stopped doing what we're good at. We stopped taking risks in terms of playing it from the back.

“We are good players. We've got a really good group in there. I think we need to believe that more. If we give away the goal, it's not ideal, but it's not the end of the world.

“We still have a long 30 minutes to play the rest of the game. So, I think it's just bravery on the ball. All over the pitch, I'm not digging anyone out. It's all over.

“We just need to believe in ourselves. If they score, we'll score two. That kind of mindset.”
