Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed defender Trevoh Chalobah will miss Tuesday's Premier League clash against Southampton.
The centre-back was forced off during Chelsea 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday night and is facing around ten days out of action.
The news is another blow to Maresca, who is already missing Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana at centre-back and had recalled Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace last month to cover for their absences.
Neither Fofana nor Badiashile are expected back until after next month’s international break. Chalobah’s absence will be more short term, but is likely to miss both the midweek meeting with Saints and the first leg of Chelsea’s Conference League last-16 tie against Copenhagen.
“He had a check yesterday and it will be around one week or ten days,” Maresca said.
“Its good because its not an important injury but it’s a shame because we lose another player in this moment when we have a lot of injuries.
Meanwhile, Maresca also confirmed that goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is set to keep his place despite his costly error at Villa Park.
Jorgensen was at fault for the home side’s 89th-minute winner, allowing Marco Asensio’s tame effort through him and in.
The young goalkeeper was himself brought into the lineup earlier this month after a series of errors by Robert Sanchez, who had started the season as No1. However, Maresca is not about to reverse that decision.
“If we have to change players every time they do a mistake then we’ll need to change every game,” added the Italian.
“But no, nothing’s changed.”
