Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has insisted he is working hard to improve Marcus Rashford's confidence since the forward joined from Manchester United.

Rashford made the switch to the west Midlands at the end of the January transfer window after a move to Barcelona became unattainable. Emery is understood to have been the driving force behind Villa's move for Rashford after personally requesting the board to sign the forward.

Since moving to Villa Park, Rashford has been bright without registering a goal nor an assist but that all changed on Saturday night against Chelsea. After coming on as a half-time substitute, Rashford set up Marco Asensio twice as the Villains turned the tables on Enzo Maresca's side to pick up a valuable three points.

In his post-match interview on Sky Sports, Emery was asked what he was doing to ensure Rashford reached his best while on loan at Villa. "Support him, help him, try to make him feel comfortable here," he explained.

"Try to get confidence with us. Try to get him to work and play like us.

"Try to use the skill with the tactical side. Try to be demanding with him with our demands tactically and everything.

"He is in this process and of course he plays a fantastic 45 minutes and, really, this is the only thing we want to try and get from him, to be consistent through him in our squad. Hopefully he is going to be very important, like today, but more and more and more and the most important for him is to try and feel comfortable here, get confidence and be comfortable with us. This is my only objective."

Villa hold an option to buy Rashford at the end of the season for a fee believed to be in the region of £40m.
