Manchester United will face Real Sociedad in the last 16 of the Europa League.

The last 16 draw was made at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon on Friday lunchtime. United booked their place in the last 16 by finishing third in the new-look league phase format last month after winning five of their eight matches. They drew their other three games, meaning they were the only club to make it through unbeaten.

Champions League qualification for 2025/26 will be secured by the winners of the Europa League. United last won a European trophy in 2017.

Drawn against Sociedad in the first knockout round of the competition, United will travel to the Reale Arena for the first leg on March 6, with the second leg taking place at Old Trafford a week later on March 13.

Sociedad booked their place in the last 16 via the knockout round after making relatively light work of Danish side FC Midtjylland, winning 7-3 on aggregate. They won Thursday night's second leg 5-2 in Spain.

United have previously faced Sociedad six times, with their most recent meetings coming in the group stage of the Europa League two seasons ago. Sociedad won 1-0 at Old Trafford ahead of United winning in Spain by the same scoreline in the reverse meeting. The Reds have only ever conceded one goal to the Spanish outfit.

With the first leg taking place on March 6, United's trip to Spain will be sandwiched between home games against Fulham and Arsenal. The second leg will take place three days before the trip to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City on March 16.

Should United beat Real Sociedad they will face either Lyon or FCSB in the quarter-final. If they win that tie they will face either Fenerbahce, Rangers, Roma or Athletic Club in the semi-final.
