Chris Agutter believes players and fans are making life tough for referees.

And it led to two red cards in Worthing’s midweek draw.

Revels remain hot on the trail of Vanarama National League leaders Dorking Wanderers after their 2-2 draw at home to Torquay.

The hosts had Sam Beard sent off for a foul in midfield but the numbers were evened up by a red card for Sam Dreyer five minutes later as he was judged to have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Rebels boss Agutter said: “I think the sendings-off are exactly the reason players react the way they do – because it DOES influence referees.

“I am not sure Beardy should get sent-off and I don’t think their centre-half should be sent-off.

“But, because of the player reaction and the crowd, I feel it influences the referee.”

Worthing, who to Slough tomorrow, remain second in the table.

Agutter said: “Going down to ten men is difficult because it changes your mindset a little bit.

“And then, when they go down to ten men, it is difficult to shift back out of that mindset of survive.

“I’m pretty happy with a point. We are now 12 unbeaten.

“We have just come out of a run of games where we have played every single team in the top seven, bar Truro, and we are unbeaten in that period of time.

“We have got ourselves into a position where we are three points of top with three games in hand.

“If we had said going into the Christmas period that was the situation we would be in after this run of games, we would have taken it.”
