Daisy Hill boss Lee Hill takes his team to Maine Road this weekend

Daisy Hill will be looking to pick up a second successive away win in the North West Counties League First Division North when they travel to Chorlton-cum-Hardy in South Manchester to face Maine Road on Saturday (3pm).

Last weekend’s 3-2 victory over in West Yorkshire against Route One Rovers was a heartening result after two home defeats in January, and manager Lee Hill is looking for more of the same this time out from his side.

“Everyone got a lift from last Saturday, as it is not an easy place to go, and plenty of other teams have gone there this season and come away with nothing,” said Hill.

“It was a hard-fought victory, and in this league going away from home and getting three points against anyone is an achievement.

“The manner in which we bounced back and scored three goals after going behind early was really pleasing, and the aim now must be to take that performance and build on it on Saturday.”

Maine Road head into Saturday’s encounter on a run of five straight defeats, conceding 19 goals in the process - a sequence of results that has seen them drop out of the play-off places they occupied earlier in the season.

However, Hill is warning against any complacency against a side that will be determined to end their poor run of form.

“There is a danger they might be a bit of a wounded animal, but at the same time they have had a bad run, and we have to go and try to take advantage of that,” he said.

“I have watched them a couple of times recently and although they picked up some good results earlier in the season, that run has come to an end now.

“It’s not going to be easy as we have had a few games recently where teams have been on bad runs when we play them, and they have bounced back against us, so it’s up to us make sure we don’t end up in that situation again.

“It’s a big pitch which will suit us, so we have to make sure the lads turn up with the bit between their teeth and apply the tactics and style of play we want.

“We can give anyone a game on our day, so it’s down to the lads to go into the game with the right mentality.

“I think it’s the sort of game that will be open, and will have goals in it, but I think we have enough quality in our squad to take hold of the game and get a result.

“There are only a few points separating several teams in mid-table, and there is still a lot to play for between now and the end of the season, as a few good results could get us at least into a top-10 finish and maybe higher.”
