Virgil van Dijk might have dropped a contract hint with his goal celebration against West Ham, as he made a point of kissing the Liverpool crest on his jersey in front of the Kop.

The Reds required an 89th-minute header from Van Dijk to secure all three points at Anfield, after Luis Diaz's first-half opener had been cancelled out by an Andy Robertson own-goal.

Robertson's own-goal came in the 86th minute and sprung Liverpool into life after a poor second-half showing, and Van Dijk ensured the sloppy performance did not result in dropped points, heading the ball into the back of the West Ham net from a later corner.

Van Dijk was chased by his teammates as he ran into the corner of the pitch between the Anfield Main Stand and the Kop to celebrate the goal. After his teammates had dispersed, Van Dijk strolled over to the Kop and clutched the crest on his jersey before kissing it.

The week building up to the game was dominated by Liverpool contract news, with Mohamed Salah putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal, and reports also suggesting Van Dijk was close to signing a new contract of his own.

The Dutchman's current deal is due to expire on June 30, and while he neglected to give a concrete update on his future after the win over West Ham, he did speak about his love for the club.

"I'm very proud today to captain my 100th game for Liverpool. It was an emotional day because of the Hillsborough anniversary," Van Dijk told Sky Sports. "The main focus was to get three points and get us close to all of our dreams, not only us as players and staff, but everyone who is connected to Liverpool FC. Everyone knows how much I love this club, and let's see what next week will look like."
