‘I don’t want to start talking about job done or how many points we need’ - Iqraa news

GARY Rowett has reiterated it is not ‘job done’ for Oxford United after taking an important step to Sky Bet Championship survival.

United’s 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday leaves the side on 48 points, six clear of the relegation zone with four games to go.

Rowett though is mindful of his interim spell in charge of Birmingham City last season, with the Blues winning three and drawing two of his eight-game stint, while their 50-point total wasn’t enough to avoid relegation to League One.

U’s head coach Rowett said: “I don’t want to start talking about job done or how many points we need, or whatever that means.

“I would imagine we probably need to go again once more in a big moment like that, but who knows?

“I spoke about it last season, and I thought 50 points would’ve been enough, and it wasn’t.

“We’ve just got to keep grinding results out and we’ve got to keep stepping up when we need to.

“The lads have earned a little bit of a breather for a few days. We’ve got a big period coming up with the Easter weekend.

“What we’ve got to do is just keep going. The most important thing is not just every game keep trying to step up, but also bouncing back very quickly if it doesn’t happen for us, and not getting too excited when it does happen for us.”
