Football matchday arrests have reached a nine-year high, with a study revealing Oxford United vs Reading as one of the riskiest fixtures in the country.
The clash between the two teams saw 35 arrests over the past five seasons, landing it as the 17th most dangerous match to attend in the UK.
The study by SeatPick analysed data from the 2019/20 to 2023/24 seasons to determine which matches had the highest number of arrests.
It found that the Manchester Derby (Manchester City vs Manchester United) and the North London Derby (Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur) topped the list, each with 65 arrests, averaging 13 per season.
Chelsea fixtures featured prominently in the top 10, with their games against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City resulting in 57, 56, and 52 arrests, respectively.
Lower league derbies were also highlighted, with Cambridge United vs Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers vs Wigan Athletic both ranking higher than some Premier League fixtures, with 44 and 40 arrests, respectively.
The study also found that Premier League matches accounted for the highest number of football arrests in the UK, with the top five spots dominated by Premier League games.
Aston Villa vs Legia Warsaw also made the top 10, with 46 arrests occurring in one game.
Most of the arrests were due to a ticketing dispute at a single Europa Conference League match last November.
All 46 arrests were Legia Warsaw fans, though 39 charges have since been dropped.
The study comes as the number of matchday arrests in England and Wales reaches a nine-year high.
