MICHAEL Carrick is still waiting to discover the severity of Neto Borges' ankle injury, but the Middlesbrough defender is set to miss tomorrow night's visit of Leeds United.

But there was better news on the injury front for Boro, with Dael Fry now back in training after his absence with a calf injury.

Carrick also provided an update on Ben Doak, who remains at Liverpool, where he continues to get treatment on a thigh injury.

Boro's boss didn't rule out the possibility of Doak playing again for Boro this season, but was understandably reluctant to put a timeframe on when he might be ready to return.

That's also the case with Borges at the minute, with Boro still waiting for answers on the injury the in-form defender suffered in Friday night's win at Blackburn.

Carrick said: "We're still looking at it. It wasn't the nicest situation really. He was knocked off balance and landed and it looked like a really bad twist.

"Hopefully for Neto it isn't that bad but we're still looking at it.

"It's unfortunate. Neto has been fantastic for us. We'll see how he is and see how he recovers. It was a blow."

With Borges out, Jonny Howson and Rav van den Berg look set to start against Leeds on Tuesday night. It's not clear whether the midweek game will come too soon for Fry to be involved, but he's now rejoined the first team group at Rockliffe.

Carrick said: "Dael has trained. He's been in the group, which is good. He hasn't had an awful lot of training but he's done a lot of rehab.

"He's been back training today which is good, so he's been back involved."

Boro have been without Liverpool loanee Doak since mid-January, when the winger suffered a thigh injury in training. He had minor surgery in early March and Boro continue to be updated on the Scotland international's progress by his parent club.

Carrick said: !"He's back at Liverpool. He's continuing his rehab at the minute so there's not much to update on that one."

Asked if there's any indication when Doak might be back, Carrick added: "No, not really. Not to say anything for anyone to jump on.

"We'll give him the time and see how he gets on. His head is on getting fit and doing all that.

"In terms of the schedule, we've not interrupted that. He's doing alright."
