Ruben Amorim conceded Alejandro Garnacho was "not that good" in the final third for Manchester United in their defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Garnacho played the full duration of 1-0 defeat and had six attempts at goal but his decision-making was often awry in another blunt performance from the winger.

Amorim selected Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes as the two No.10s behind Joshua Zirkzee before Rasmus Hojlund was sent on at half-time and Zirkzee dropped back next to Garnacho.

Garnacho ended a 24-game goal drought in United's 3-0 win at Leicester in their match before the loss at Forest but he regressed back in the east midlands.

"He’s making everything, he’s trying sometimes," Amorim said. "You have one day [where] you are doing the right things but in the final third, you are not that good. That can happen. That can happen in the game.

"The most important thing for me is when he needs to run back, he’s running back. Of course, we want a player that has one against one. Sometimes he’s trying too much, he has (Patrick) Dorgu to make a movement but I think he wants to help the team in doing his best.

"Sometimes he doesn’t always make the best choice but you can point to any player today."

Amorim bemoaned Anthony Elanga's fifth-minute winner where the former United winger ran from midway inside his own half into the opposition penalty area.

Garnacho lost his balance in attempting to challenge Elanga before Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui failed to engage the winger. Amorim felt a United player could have cynically fouled Elanga.

"When you have a corner and men to block transitions, we have all the pitch, you can make a foul," he emphasised. "If you look at the game and if you are the coach, you have to do better."
