Carlisle United are given only an outside chance of claiming a desperately-needed victory at Chesterfield tonight.

Mark Hughes' Blues, nine points from safety, appear to be heading to the National League barring an incredible late revival.

Bookmakers price a United win at the SMH Group Stadium tonight at 15/4 (Bet365).

Other odds for a Blues victory against the play-off chasing Spireites include 7/2 (William Hill), 16/5 (BoyleSports) and 13/4 (QuinnBet).

Paul Cook's 11th-placed hosts are odds-on to chalk up a fifth league win in six this evening.

A Chesterfield win is 4/5 with William Hill, 8/11 with BetVictor and 3/4 with Ladbrokes.

The draw in Derbyshire is 3/1.

Carlisle frontman Matt Dennis is 10/1 to open the scoring tonight.

Kadeem Harris is 16/1 with Joe Bevan 21/2.

Other candidates for the first goal in Hughes' squad include Stephen Wearne at 14/1, Georgie Kelly at 11/1, Callum Whelan at 20/1, Josh Vela at 25/1 and Terell Thomas at 66/1.

For Chesterfield, Aribim Pepple is 11/2 to open the scoring against the Cumbrians.

Ex-United striker Paddy Madden is also 11/2, and 21/10 to become the latest former Carlisle player to score against his old club this season at any stage in the game.

Other contenders for the opener among the Spireites players include Armando Dobra at 6/1, Ryan Colclough at 10/1, former Barrow man Ollie Banks at 12/1, Ash Palmer at 33/1 and Michael Jacobs - who scored the only goal in their 1-0 win at Barrow on Saturday - at 14/1.

Carlisle's last trip to Chesterfield was a 2-2 draw in 2017, and a similar result tonight is priced 14/1.

A 1-0 away win for the Cumbrians is 12/1 with a 2-1 triumph for Hughes' side 14/1.

United are 14/1 to suffer consecutive 3-0 defeats while Chesterfield are 15/2 to make it two 2-0 wins over the Blues this season.
