Carlisle United loanee Charlie McArthur made his first start for Scotland Under-21s on Tuesday.
But the defender's full debut came in a heavy defeat for Scot Gemmill's side, who were thrashed 6-1 by Iceland.
McArthur had come off the bench in Scotland's previous outing, a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland last Friday.
This time the Newcastle United man was in the XI for the Scots' second game at the Pinatar Arena in Spain.
But Gemmill's side crashed, conceding three goals in either half, with Ryan One scoring a consolation goal and Finlay Pollock sent off for two bookable offences, the latter an alleged dive.
McArthur played the first half before being substituted along with a number of team-mates at the break.
His involvement in the double-header ruled him out of United's two League Two home games against Bromley and MK Dons.
The 19-year-old had been omitted from recent matchday squads by head coach Mark Hughes, who said of his Scotland call-up last week: "I'm pleased for Charlie.
"He's been just a little bit unfortunate. He went out of the team with illness and hasn't had an opportunity since.
"But it gets him game time, so that will help us and help him."
The defender, who joined the Blues in January on a half-season loan, will return to availability for Saturday's trip to Doncaster Rovers.
